for the birds

Some years ago, I had a flowering Agave that attracted more Hummingbirds in one day than I had ever seen in my whole life.....I was able to get a lot of pictures of this amazing-to-me "happening"....Being Spring, I thought it appropriate to share some of them with you here on my blog...... I also took some Videos, but Blogger won't let me upload any of them....Grrrrrrr.....So, the photographs will have to suffice......Below....A darling little Hummer, 'at rest'...Something else I have seen more of then one would think...... There was a Hummingbird that landed on the edge of a plant to take his rest, and I was lucky enough to get a few pictures of him, too......He sat on the edge of this Aloe spike for quite a while....And luckily, didn't seem to mind me taking pictures of him.....Maybe he was meditating and lost in his thoughts....Below....another Hummingbird on an Agave plant.....He was at rest, too......He had moved slightly, and so had I, and when I got this picture he was looking at something to his right...But...still he looked like he was meditating......Whatever the reason he wasn't scared of me and that he allowed me to photograph him, I was deeply grateful. To be this close to a Hummingbird and have him accept me......well, it was very moving to me. And below, here is another Hummer, at rest.......I wasn't as close to him, but, I love that I was able to catch him in repose---sitting right at the edge of another Agave, close to the Flowering Agave Plant....... He was quite a young one---not a complete Baby, but maybe a Teenager.....So adorable....These darlings are my very favorite birds....Something about them touches my heart and my soul, too......And below, one more darling Hummingbird, at rest.....This was way down below, near the fence that separates my property from my neighbors....The Bougainvillea were in beautiful bloom, and here was this sweet little Hummer, checking out the city after he had supped on the nectar......Amazing little creatures........

More To Come......

Just had to pop in before leaving - so glad I did. You must have magic powers to catch humming birds at rest. Teh only time I have seen them they were like greased lightening - not still for a second.
Take care.

My, you really got some wonderful shots of those darling hummers. We don't have them with that coloring here. I can never seem to catch them at rest. "Quick" is their first name.
They are my favorite bird to watch and they keep my cats amused through the window also.

Wow! Love all these photos of the
hummingbirds. You have honey on you, Naomi, because they wasn't scared of you and they allowed you to photograph them. You took great photos!
Love also the photo of the bougainvillea and the lovely little hummer.

I hope you have a pleasant day and a good weekend too.
Big hugs.

Love the hummingbirds. I wish we had more of them, but when my plum tree went, so did the birds.

Cheers.

What great close up shots you managed to get! I love the last one sitting on a twig! :D

I love seeing the hummingbirds in AZ, we don't get them here in the UK, so they seem extra special to me.

I love your bird shots. Try as I may, I never could get a good hummingbird shot.

Our re-entry from Europe has been hard. As you did recently, I had to say goodbye to Gypsy this past week. My heart is broken.

Tell me it gets easier. Please.

So cute!

I see your "new Blogger" grouching and I feel your pain. I tried to update a blog I was going to keep just about the Bean and it was such a pain to fool with that I gave up!

You are inspiring me to get my humming bird feeder out of the box and set it up, just in case there are any hungry humming birds around. I used to see them in the garden of my previous house but have not seen any here. When I first saw one, I thought it was a very large bee.... I couldn't believe a bird could be so small and dash about with such alacrity!

Marvelous hummingbird photos. I never cease to be fascinated by them. I have a confused Christmas cactus with two red blooms inside next to my living room window. Since the exterior bird of paradise has finished blooming the hummingbirds are now flying to my window which I've decided to deliberately delay cleaning. I don't want these delicate birds crashing against an invisible window. How do you like that for an excuse to avoid window cleaning!

I just read your series on Greystone. What a beautiful mansion and grounds. It would have looked well also on Long Island. After researching all the artwork your father donated to the US I also believe that Greystone would not have been right for his collection. I need to place going back to Washington DC on my list of trips so I can take a look at his museum.
I am going to place the Duvall’s films you recommend on my list – they look quite interesting. I like him as an actor, but not his politics. He is very conservative and was a supporter of Sarah Palin.
You are a talented photograph to be able to take such splendid photos of hummingbirds. They move so quickly and even at rest, they are little creatures hard to be able to focuse on a camera (I know I have tried…) Great photos.

What beautiful pictures you were able to get! Last night, I was walking along the river in the town I live in and I saw something on top of my side view mirror when I got back to my car. Lo and behold, it was a teenage mourning dove! He (or she) must've just started flying and got a bit tired, so sat there to rest. I was able to get a couple good shots (with my iPhone lol) before he flew off...with his parents joining him. It made me smile :-)
