colorful beauty

This flower is almost unreal looking. It is extremely lucious looking....And this is a combination of colors that I find incredibly pleasing.......
The colors here are soooo very beautiful....The flower itself, magnificent.....

This is a Bromeliad! And a gorgeous plant it is.... This plant was given to me as a gift about 15 years ago....it sits in a lovely big white pot on my patio, right outside the sliding door going from the Dining Room to the patio...... It only flowers about every two or three years....In actuality, I know very little about why or how, except that I have been told each head only flowers once, but then forms another head which can and will flower....That is as much as I know about this exoyic plant called The Bromeliad, except, that it is known as "Matchstick" and that it is fantastically beautiful.... I find this plant and flower so extrordinary that I must show you more pictures of it....So, here below....More of the fantastic "Matchstick" Bromeliad.... The combination of these colors, as I said above, just knock me out....And being as excessive as I am....I cannot get enough of them..... And below, another shot of this exotic flower.....And, once again below...Another view..... And one more...(I know....really really escessive....lol)..... But, do you blame me? Click on the word Bromeliad and it will take you to a link that gives a lot of info about this amazingly beautiful plant....

There are only two blooms, by the way.....There may be more pictures of these flowers cause, well....by now you "get" that this is who I am....So, there just may be more....lol I just had to post the picture above.....!

More To Come.......

Oh, how I wish I owned this plant...and wouldn't kill it with my brown thumb. Plants in VA need so much babying and I am a bit scattered sometimes; I have to remember to feed the Short People first!

Speaking of, India, my oldest, ADORED the photos. Mostly because it embodies all her favorite colors. It's like a princess to her.

So glad Michele sent me; I'm enjoying getting to know you.

You're right, they almost look too perfect to be real. The colors are very inviting and I'll bet they're fragrant as well - I can almost smell them from here!

Really a colorful beautiful post and pictures. I feel this is very much you Naomi - colorful and a beautiful heart and how lovely of you to share it all with us.

As I've said a lot of times: as a Norwegian, this is so exotic you know - these kind of flowers you could not even grown indoors.

Wishing you a lovely end to your week:-)

Oh how incredible! I have never seen that flower before and the colours it has is unreal..to have mixed colours in the same plant is totally weird...and the texture of the spikey looking parts of it is also incredible, thanks so much for sharing so many great photos of it.

Ohhhh! It is sooooo gorgeous! My fave colors, too. You are a most extraordinary plant mommie to keep it alive and healthy! I must confess to being posessed of a purple thumb that does in all but the hardiest---though there was one pineapple (also a bromiliad) top that grew into a handsome plant in spite of me.

How do you always do that...make your photos look more beautiful than the real thing? Although I wouldn't know what the real flowers look like, I can't imagine them looking any better than these pictures. The colors are fascinating. I've never seen such a bromeliad.

As I was looking through you pictures, I was thinking, that if it were me, I'd be blowing one up (picture that is lol) and framing it somewhere in a contrasting frame.

Just stunning!

Lucky you, to have such a glorious flowering plant tucked outside your patio door. Please, tell me, you do have a Bromeliad celebration when it blooms, don't you?

If not, please consider doing so, just call your dearest friends and say, "oh, you must come over for lemonade and celebrate the beauty of the blooming Matchstick flowers."

In fact, if I was closer, I would stop over just to see it - and get the glorious pleasure of seeing you in the process.

Thank you, once again, for sharing your delightful floral pictures.

Hugs...

I HAD a plant very similar to this one...except mine was just pink, with no purple/blue in it. It had been left on my lanai by the people we bought the house from and wasn't in bloom at that time. WHAT a surprise for me when it DID bloom! I was as excited as you are....lol
BUT....I ended up leaving it for the new owners when we sold our house 2 years ago and moved here. Just kinda seemed like the right thing to do. Like THAT was it's home and it should remain there.
So nice to see your lovely plant, Naomi. And you're right...it doesn't look real. (Mine had an almost "waxy" texture to it)

Saying Rabbit Rabbit on the first of each month is about luck. You say it as soon as you realize that it's the first of the month. If you forget to say it, then you have to say tibbar tibbar as soon as you realize that you forgot about Rabbit rabbit.
One of my daughters (AP3) seems to have started it in our corner of the blog world.

Your bromeliad is absolutely stunning - so much so that I googled to find if it was available here in Australia. However all the photos of Bromeiad 'Matchstick'which came up looked nothing like your plant. You wouldn't happen to know the latin name of its species perhaps?
Your cats are also stunning. I agree with you 100% on their natures and intelligence.
